Oniix and iSkul are live in production

We are building Africa's digital ecosystem.

VERIION is a technology startup from Benin. We build across several domains — streaming, education, social, school ERP — for audiences whose habits and budgets have nothing in common. What connects these products is not their market: it is the technical foundation and the artificial intelligence layer they share.

The thesis

The world's youngest continent is forming its digital habits right now.

Three observations drive everything we choose to build — and everything we choose not to.

  1. 01

    A mobile-native generation

Here, the internet arrived through the phone. There is no legacy to replace: usage patterns are being set today, on entry-level devices and constrained networks. Designing for that reality is not a late adaptation — it is the starting point.

  2. 02

Payments are no longer the blocker

In sub-Saharan Africa, mobile money solved the problem that blocked everything else: collecting small amounts, at very large scale, without a bank card. The distribution layer exists. What is missing are the products that plug into it properly and answer the real needs: paying school fees, watching a match, learning in your own language, getting paid for what you make.

  3. 03

AI changes what a small team can ship

What used to require a pedagogical department, an editorial team and a moderation desk now fits inside a software layer. That is what lets a startup in Benin ship products with functional depth that used to belong to the largest players. We build from that premise rather than bolting it on afterwards.

In production

Two applications, in service, on real phones.

Oniix and iSkul are not mockups. This is what their users are looking at today.

The foundation

What we build once, and every product reuses.

VERIION's value is not in any single product; it is in what sits underneath. Five shared layers, operated by one team.

  • 01

    Artificial intelligence

Document processing and structuring, generation of teaching material, learning assistance, moderation. One layer, tuned on our own usage, that every product plugs into.

  • 02

    Identity and accounts

One account, one session, one permission model. A user known to one platform is already known to the others.

  • 03

    Payments and collection

Mobile money, carriers and cards behind a single interface. Opening a country means adding a provider, not rewriting a product.

  • 04

    Media and delivery

Transcoding, storage and adaptive quality, tuned for unstable networks and metered data plans — not for fibre.

  • 05

    Data and instrumentation

One measurement pipeline across every product: what we learn on one immediately informs the others.

One more product does not mean one more team. That is what makes the model viable at our size — and why two platforms are already live.

Scale

One market at a time, on the same foundation.

We do not open a market because it is large. We open it because the foundation already works there and a local partner can distribute.

  • Distribution before advertising

Carriers, schools and institutions already reach the users we are after. We would rather build with them than rent attention alongside them.

  • Local adaptation, shared core

Language, payment methods, catalogue and pricing change from one market to the next. The infrastructure does not — which is what turns a market opening into a matter of weeks rather than quarters.

  • A sequence, not a race

One product reaches production before the next one accelerates. Execution discipline is what separates a technology company from a portfolio of intentions.

Leadership

One founder, a team that ships.

Frédy Ricardo AKPI founded VERIION and designs its technical foundation. Around him, five leads cover operations, product, business development, content and marketing. This is the team that took Oniix and iSkul to production.
